The major innovations carried by the German modernisation of contract Law from 2001

 January 1st 2002 saw the entry into effect of the German Law dated November 26th 2001 – the so called modernisation of contract Law (Gesetz zur Modernisierung des Schuldrechts)- adopted after long discussions that began in Summer 2000 and which raised violent criticism.  This biligual article does not mean to exhaustively comment the entirety of the considerable changes made in German Law, but only to describe the principal innovations enacted by this Law and to examine the practical application of the new Law and underline certain aspects concerning the relationship between the said German Law and the Vienna Convention on the international sale of goods of April.
